Middleham Falls Tour
Hike through a few of Dominica’s fresh water attractions near the village of Laudat on this tour. The main event: Middleham Falls, a 1 hour trail hike each way. The journey to the tall Middleham Falls takes you winding through lush forest with mountain valley views and across refreshing streams. Initially you’ll climb a steep portion of the trail but the remainder is relatively easy going. Overall the hike is considered a medium-difficulty trail. As you approach the last leg of the hike you’ll get a glimpse of the tall waterfall through the forest canopies. The trail ends at a wooden lookout deck where you’ll find a stunning view of the powerful fall. To get to the fresh cool pool you’ll need to carefully maneuver down some rocks from the deck.
After your stroll back from Middleham Falls, Sheppee Fun Tours takes visitors on a brief drive to the Fresh Water Lake, located in the Morne Trois Piton National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The large lake surrounded by Dominica’s lush forest mountains originated from volcanic activity but was enlarged when a dam was built as part of the island’s hydro-electric arrangement. A trail takes you around the lake and kayak and boat tours through the lake are also available.
You’ll then have the opportunity to have a hot mineral sulphur water bath in Wooten Waven. The warm mineral water is the perfect remedy to soothe tired muscles after the long hike. Following your soak in the warm sulphur water you’ll also see a “mini volcano” where smoke rises from the forest bed.
On the last leg of the fun tour you’ll drive through the historic Botanical Gardens to view a sampling of the island’s flora and fauna. From there Sheppee takes you to Morne Bruce, a viewpoint overlooking Dominica’s capital city, Roseau. You’ll see a breathtaking, birds-eye view of the city, cruise ship berth, Caribbean Sea and mountains.
